Volunteering...
COME JOIN THE TEAM AND HELP US GROW!
YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
The New England Watercolor Society depends on volunteers. We are looking for some special people to help us continue to offer our shows, workshops, demos, and receptions, and to maintain our gallery. We are also committed to reaching out to more people to share our love for the wonderful medium of watercolor!
Volunteers have the unique opportunity to become fully engaged with NEWS, and even influence the directions that we might take. Being part of the growth and success of this wonderful organization makes your contribution meaningful while enjoying the company of other artists.

We have a new show every two months at our NEWS Gallery in Plymouth at the Plymouth Center for the Arts. For every show we need volunteers to:
- receive artwork
- pack & unpack paintings shipped into the shows
- help with hanging the show
- help with repacking and pick up at the end of the show
We are now having in-person receptions again for each show. We need volunteers to help with setting up for the reception, bringing food and drinks, and helping with clean-up.

Each year, NEWS sponsors either a Regional show, open to any watercolor artist in the New England region -- or a North American Open show, open to any watercolorist residing in North America. This year, in November 2022, we are holding the North American Open Show at the Plymouth Center for the Arts.

We need help with:
- packing & unpacking of shipped artwork
- receiving of accepted paintings
- hanging the show
- repacking and managing pickup at the end of the show
We also will need help with our reception on November 6th.
In the Fall of 2023, the NEWS Regional Show will be held at the home of the Rhode Island Watercolor Society in Pawtucket. We welcome all volunteers, and especially hope that our members who live in Rhode Island will sign up to be involved with this show.
Each year in February, NEWS presents a show by Signature Members in the month of February at the Guild of Boston Artists. Help is needed with:
- packing & unpacking of shipped artwork
- receiving artwork for the show
- hanging the show
- repacking and overseeing pickup at the end of the show
- help is also needed with distributing marketing information for this show in the greater Boston Area.
Our "Brushes with Nature" program offers opportunities for meeting and painting in the private and public open spaces of New England. The Brushes with Nature program was started to foster fellowship while painting outdoors in the fresh air.
This season, we continue our events in some of New England's most beautiful locations. All members’ work done at one of the Brushes with Nature events will be eligible for entry into the Brushes with Nature Exhibition -- held at the Plymouth Center for the Arts during November/December.
We need people to host these events and act as ambassadors for NEWS.

In today’s difficult environment, no organization can go it alone. This committee will identify potential funding sources including regional foundations, grant opportunities, and potential business donors, and strategize ways to approach sources for funding.
If you have experience with grant writing or fund raising, WE NEED YOUR HELP!
This committee will mobilize potential volunteers, directing them to appropriate volunteer opportunities. It will work with committee chairs and Exhibition/Event chairs to assess the volunteer needs of the organization and assign people to work opportunities that utilize their special skills.
This committee will brainstorm events outside of regular programming with an emphasis on events that will bring a revenue stream to New England Watercolor Society. Suggestions include an Annual Gala, Live Auction, Online/Silent Auctions, a Traveling Show, and other new imaginative events. The committee will work with the Development Committee to achieve specific funding goals.
This committee will work to develop new programming that builds community awareness, fosters new educational opportunities, and may bring in modest revenue or sponsorships. This might include events in our galleries that may have a small fee or are free, such as concerts, lecture series, children’s programming, college/youth engagement, gallery talks, and demonstrations that will encourage healthy relationships and create donor opportunities.
This committee will create an outreach and publicity strategy for our regular programming, including our Signature Members Show, our Gallery Shows, and our Regional and North American Open Shows. It will also address opportunities for Publicity to promote special events, education, and or outreach programming. It will look for sponsorship and ad revenue for our exhibition catalog(s), consider which activities may require print advertising, postcards, magazine advertising, or other types of promotional media, and strategize how to best utilize free and low-cost publicity resources such as e-blasts, social media, our website, and other resources.
If you have skills and expertise with marketing, publicity, and social media, this is the committee for you!
