Continuing its tradition of nurturing and encouraging watercolor painters, the New England Watercolor Society offers workshops, usually in conjunction with sponsored shows or the annual meeting.

In light of the continuing pandemic and the increased concerns due to the Delta variant, the NEWS Board has instituted the following protocol which will be mandated for all participants of workshops until further notice.

All participants must be vaccinated and have proof of vaccination available. Masks must be worn at all times when inside during the workshop. No food or drink may be consumed while inside during the workshop. Snacks may be enjoyed outside and the workshop leader will plan for breaks for this purpose. We request that social distancing be observed when gathering outside without masks.

Workshop with Keiko Tanabe

January 28-30, 2022 — 9am – 4pm

This workshop is designed for those who would like to make a watercolor painting that is strong in composition and full of light and atmosphere. Keiko demonstrates how she interprets and simplifies the scene to capture the essence of the subject that conveys a certain mood.

The process of simplification begins with visualization. In representational art, this ability to see the end result of a painting, through the mind’s eye, is instrumental in realizing an artist’s vision. Through sketches and complete, step-by-step demonstrations.

Keiko will explain her methods and techniques to reveal her philosophy behind it. Subject matter may include landscape, cityscape, waterscape, interior and figures.

Keiko is currently a member of the National Watercolor Society (signature), American Watercolor Society (signature), American Impressionist Society and.Laguna Plein Air Painters Association (signature).

In order to benefit from this workshop, basic knowledge & some previous experience is strongly recommended.

The workshop will be limited to 16 participants.

Tuition for the 3-day workshop is $450 for NEWS members, $525 for non-members.
A $225 deposit holds your space, Full payment by November 22, 2021.

New England Watercolor Society Cancellation Policy (revised 2/13/19)

  • Cancellations made more than 60 days prior to the start of the event will receive a full refund less a $25 administration fee.
  • Cancellations made between 7 to 60 days prior to the start of the event will receive a 50% refund of total tuition.
  • No refunds will be given for any cancellations made less than 7 days before the scheduled date of the event or after the event has started.
  • If the event has to be cancelled because of unforeseen circumstances then a full refund will be promptly made.
  • Tuition is due 60 days prior to the start of the workshop.
