Watercolor is the ideal medium for interpreting and expressing the complex subtleties of light. Its transparency makes it uniquely suited to convey luminous surfaces and veils of atmosphere. With it you can create pale washes as well as dark, powerful and moody images. It is a lovely and fluid language in which to express any idea or image. Paul's focus for this three-day workshop will be to guide you through a painting from beginning to end, as you paint together a stunning image of dramatic light and luminosity.

A prolific artist and ambitious world traveler, Paul Jackson is one of today's most versatile and visible contemporary watercolorists.

Jackson frequently serves as judge for national and international art competitions. In 2009 he served as the invited juror for the American Watercolor Society's 142nd annual international exhibition. Whether his subject is landscape, cityscape, portrait, architecture, still life or abstract, Paul captivates his audience with genuine emotion, intensity and finesse that energize each of his creations. He is an eagle scout, an adventurous spirit and travels the earth in search of visual inspiration.

Jackson is the author of Painting Spectacular Light Effects in Watercolor & The Wandering Watercolorist.

Acclaimed wildlife artist
Anni Crouter will share her approach to painting in watercolors in a 3-day workshop.

Through her fluid, but opaque application of the medium, she renders her subjects in a manner that captures and communicates movement, animation and personality.

If you are an aspiring wildlife or animal artist, this is your chance to study with one of America’s best. If you are a landscape, portrait, or still life painter, Anni’s handling of her subjects and settings offer approaches and techniques that can provide inspiration and a fresh direction in your work.

Anni’s lessons, delivered with wit and charm, will motivate you to view the world differently, take chances and accept mistakes as a valuable part of the learning process. In her words, “I want to motivate people to simply get out there and spend time painting, making mistakes, and learning from them, just having fun!”

This workshop is designed for those who would like to make a watercolor painting that is strong in composition and full of light and atmosphere. Keiko demonstrates how she interprets and simplifies the scene to capture the essence of the subject that conveys a certain mood.

Keiko will explain her methods and techniques to reveal her philosophy behind it. Subject matter may include landscape, cityscape, waterscape, interior and figures.
