John Salminen has been conducting workshops for many years, all around the country, from California to New York and from Rhode Island to Florida. He enjoys working with artists at all levels of experience and expertise. John will share his approach to painting the urban scene in watercolor. John will help participants in all aspects of painting a representational cityscape or town scene – choosing the subject, adding mood and creating emotional content, lighting the scene for dramatic effect, using photo reference in a meaningful way and most importantly, strengthening and enhancing representational painting through design. The workshop will include demonstrations, critiques and lots of one-on-one individual help. Whether you’ve never tried painting cityscapes or are an experienced urban painter, this workshop will be an invaluable opportunity to gain new painting insights.
John is a signature member of many art societies, and has been honored with Master Status in the Transparent Watercolor Society of America and inclusion in the American Watercolor Society’s Dolphin Fellowship. John has won more than 175 awards in national and international exhibitions, including the first place prizes in the National Watercolor Society Exhibition 2005 and American Watercolor Society Exhibition 2006. He has served as a juror of selection for both the American Watercolor Society's and the National Watercolor Society's International Exhibitions.
While perhaps best known for his realistic urban landscapes, John has also gained recognition for his mixed medium abstract paintings, John’s work has been featured in many national and international magazines, including American Artist, Watercolor Magazine, The Artist's Magazine, Watercolor Magic, the British publication The Artist and International Artist and in many books.
The workshop will be Urban Realism Through Design and will be limited to 20 participants.
